Close encounter with a spider

Published by tglisman at 9:36 am under just another day Edit This

Last night one of the dogs had to go out.  It was after dark and of course the flashlight was almost dead.  While I am stumbling around in the dim light waiting for her to do her business I walked into a spider web.  I have an intense fear of spiders so I almost killed myself trying to get the spider off.  My poor dog got dragged around while I beat myself and screamed.  There were even a few bad words added into the mishap.  What made it so embarrassing is the spider was tiny.  It was less than the size of a dime.  If it had been one of those big hairy ones I guess I would have just died of fear right on the spot.
My encounter reminded me of something similar that happened to a friend of mine a few years ago.  Sue was afraid of spiders but at the same time felt they were beneficial to the environment.  When a very large spider built a web in the rails of her front deck she was reluctant to kill the spider.  Even though her husband and children complained she continued to defend the spider until one evening when they had dinner guest.  When the guest refused to walk past the spider and had to enter the house by the rear door she decided it was time to move the spider.
Sue had no problem finding a large jar or getting the spider into the jar but what she did have a problem with was finding a lid to fit the jar.  Since it was only a few yards to the woods she felt it would not be a problem.  About half way to the woods the spider crawled out of the jar, up her arm, and under her shirt.  Not only was she screaming and slapping at herself but she also ripped off her shirt and jeans.  When she finally realized the spider was not on her and calmed down she looked up to see her family and guest standing on her back deck while she stood there in her underwear.
Spiders are wonderful but I sure wish they would stay in the woods.

That is so funny yet I feel so sorry for Sue! I know exactly how you feel I also have a fear of spiders and freak out when one gets on me or even if I get in an empty web.
