TV Sure Has Changed

Published by tglisman at 7:11 pm under just another day Edit This

All my life I have loved the Laurel and Hardy movies. They are funny in a clean way that the whole family can enjoy.  I also still love John Wayne movies and the old movies from the 40’s and 50’s.  One of the funniest movies ever made is “Bringing up Baby”.  It too is funny without being nasty.  It makes me sad the way movies and TV have changed for the worse.  When I was a child my family and I watched: the Flintstones, the Monsters, the Addams Family, Big Valley, Gunsmoke, etc… On all of the westerns the bad guy gets what is coming to him and the good guys win.  Now we sometimes make a hit man a hero.  In the old horror movies you did not see the monster eat the people and most of the time you did not even see blood.  In the old westerns people got shot did not have a bullet hole in their clothing.  Now we have movies where we see parts of people; guts, gore, torn limbs, and brains.  One example is the movie “Saw” which I refuse to watch.  I was watching a movie with my son the other day and a guys head explodes.  I did not see that coming.  We are becoming desensitized to the violence we see in the movies and on TV.  We have way too much sex and vulgarity on TV and it is even in some Ads during the hours children are watching.

Another thing that I refuse to watch is reality TV.  I do not want to see a show that brings out the worst in people.  If I want to see backstabbing I will watch the news.  Ask yourself this; does America reflect TV or does TV reflect America?
