Natural Beauty
I look out over my bare dirt yard and sigh. It is depressing to see that each year there is more dirt and less grass. Our yard slopes and it is eroding each time it rains. The back yard has grass from the back door to the barn. There is a flower bed back there and flowering bushes too. On the other hand the front yard is a barren desert. Last year we bought tons of top soil and put it down. We then planted grass which promptly washed away. All of this cost hundreds of dollars. We bought borders, put in potting soil and planted flowers that died within weeks of being planted. This year we planted some flowers in the back yard that actually flourished. The only thing we did to the front was to put down the wooden trim to keep the rest of the dirt from washing down the bank. The sides of the yard are tree lined and each summer vines and weeds grow among them.
Over the summer we got an unexpected surprise. All of those vines and weeds were wild flowers. The vines had pretty fuzzy purple flowers on them. There were Morning Glory and yellow daisies. There were flowers blooming everywhere. Out back in the trees I found a flowering bush and a Mint bush too. It’s as if nature took pity on us and gave us a wonderful gift.
